ALn 556 e Aln 56 (1st version)

Since no specialized company produces Z-scale models, I decided to proceed by designing and printing of some of the most famous Historical Italian Trains. The first model I designed was the Littorina: ALn 556. Unfortunately, at the time of writing the article, I realized that I had many photos of the finished model but few of the various stages of the construction.

The first step in the creation process was the 3D design, created using CAD software, and after an endless amount of work, I was able to create the body of the model.

The construction of the interior was divided into two parts: the motor Suport in black, and the others parts in purple.

Below you can see one of the first prints made in resin; the small details and the buffers were printed separately to allow an easier painting phase.

After the 1st prototype i decided to realize some different versions of the model: ALn 56 e ALn 556

At the end i've realized one last version: A digital, with white and red ligths.

The final Result can be seen in the video below:

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

Although the model is beautiful and fully functional in both analog and digital modes, it is still somewhat inaccurate: the body is 2mm too high, and the front end is not sloped enough—its shape and curvature are more similar to an ALn 772. For this reason, I created a second model, which I will present in another article, that is more faithful to reality.
